Sun Yuchen, also known as Justin Sun, was born in July 1990 in Xining, China. Now in his early 30s, he has already launched, acquired, and advised a number of high-profile technology companies poised to change the future of global commerce and community. He served as as Grenada’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organization (WTO) until early 2023, and is on the Global Advisory Board for Huobi.
Entrepreneurial success didn’t come easy. Sun had to work hard for an empowering education and take courageous risks to invest for the returns he now enjoys. An active childhood imagination became a thriving ability to write creatively and analytically, a skill which won Sun a high school essay contest that came with an invitation to study at the prestigious Peking University. In 2011, he earned a B.A. in History there. Then, he moved on to the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a Master of Arts in East Asia Studies in 2013.
Justin Sun’s notable business achievements did not happen by accident. His resilience and faith steadied him with the confidence to launch his own businesses and earn recognition as an innovative young entrepreneur. In 2014, he was recognized as a Davos Global Youth Leader. In 2015, China Network Television named Justin Sun its “Most Noteworthy New Entrepreneur.” From 2015 through 2017, Forbes included Justin Sun in its “Asia 30 Under 30” list of high-achieving entrepreneurs.
In 2017, Justin Sun founded the TRON network with the vision to decentralize the internet via blockchain technology and decentralized applications. In June 2018, TRON was completely uncoupled from the Ethereum Network, enabling it to operate as a blockchain with its own mainnet. Just over four years later, TRON boasts over 138 million active users, the second largest Total Value Locked (TVL) of any blockchain, and the second largest circulation of any stablecoins, including USDD, the only stablecoin currently on the market with over 200% collateralization.
Sun then took another risk. He provided a real-world illustration of decentralized authority and leadership by resigning as CEO of the now dissolved TRON Foundation and releasing it to become what Forbes magazine called quite possibly the largest decentralized autonomous organization, or DAO, on Earth. Sun wrote in an open letter to the TRON DAO community, “There's nothing better for society as a whole than having the creator of a flourishing community cede complete control over users, assets, and data.”
In December, 2021, Sun was honored to receive the title of “His Excellency” when he accepted Grenada’s appointment to become their Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organization. After exploring blockchain and cryptocurrency business potential in the Caribbean, Sun discerned that this expansive region could become one of the most influential crypto regions of the World. In October 2022, a neighboring Caribbean government, Dominica, designated TRON its official national blockchain infrastructure, legalized seven TRON-based cryptocurrencies for everyday use on the island, and determined to launch the first ever national cryptocurrency fan token – the Dominica Coin (DMC). A member of Parliament in St. Maarten announced in January 2023 that they would follow a similar path.
In October 2022, H.E. Justin Sun was named to the Global Advisory Board of Huobi, where he assists in leading the effort to advance the exchange toward primary leadership in blockchain-based financial solutions.
Sun has been recognized for his philanthropic work, as well. To date, he has made significant donations to high-profile global causes. He also invests in iconic artworks and holds profound interest in decentralizing the opportunity for humanity to experience Space travel.
H.E. Justin Sun is committed to entrepreneurial innovations that will provide engagement in global commerce and community to every human on the planet.
